It's been quite a year or two with Covid really... and I'm so happy to have some fresh blood in the studio with me again to support my art and really get back to creating on a more consistent basis. Get to know Charlotte a Studio Artist Major from UT.
What is your favorite thing about yourself?
I am a very passionate and driven person who loves to talk, a lot. I was raised by a family who always encouraged me to follow my dreams, always pushed me to be the best, and supported me no matter what. Having a support system growing up helped me become the person I am today.
What do you do in your spare time?
I'm a practicing artist myself, so whenever I have free time, I try to get out and do film photoshoots with my friends or try to paint. I love black and white photography and optical illusion patterns.
My favorite piece Julie has made is We See the Light (shown below). I was immediately drawn to the work because of its strong sense of contrast and brightness. The dense and translucent layers of paint create such depth to the piece and create new colors when overlapped and mixed.
The layers also show lines, adding a geometric touch that balances out the rocky textures. The application of paint is a huge part of this piece that can't be missed. Some brush strokes are smooth, some are rough and some look like drips rather than brush strokes.
I'm naturally drawn to the color blue and never really loved the color pink, but the way it's added translucently to the painting, makes me have a new appreciation for the color!
What will your next tattoo be?
I have two new tattoos in mind that I'm wanting to get. The first one is the name of my late mom in cursive, but I'm not sure where to put it on my body since my entire back is taken up already and part of my right arm. The second tattoo that I want to get is a palm tree. I absolutely love going to the beach and want to have a representation of that on my body.
I love that Julie is a local artist here in Austin, has made a name for herself, and create a successful art business! Her drive and passion for art encourage and inspire me to keep making artwork. Her artwork is amazing and I love that she creates modern and expressive pieces. Plus, she's Italian like me!
I'm not a big fan of talking about what's next because, to be honest, I don't know. I like to go with the flow and see where life takes me. It's an honor to be working for Julie, and I'm excited to help grow her business. It's a journey of learning, and I hope to use these acquired skills in the future for my own business.
